James F. Clapp

Jim chairs the Firm's litigation department. Jim earned his J.D. in 1989 from Northwestern University School of Law, where he served on the Editorial Board of one of Northwestern's law journals. In 1986, Jim received his B.A., with distinction, from the University of Virginia, where he was an Echols Scholar and a National Merit Scholar.

Since co-founding the Firm in 1995, Jim has built an impressive record of success in consumer and employment class actions. He is recognized as one of the leading class action attorneys in California and has served as lead counsel in more than 50 certified class actions involving alleged violations of federal or state law. Many of these cases have resulted in published opinions. Jim has obtained trial verdicts or settlements totaling well over $300 million. He has personally earned an AV rating, the highest rating offered by Martindale-Hubbell, and has been named a Southern California "Superlawyer" since 2008.

Before joining the Firm, Jim was a litigation attorney with Gray, Cary, Ware & Fridenrich, now known as DLA Piper, one of the largest law firms in the world.

James T. Hannink

Jim Hannink is a litigator. Jim has prevailed in litigations involving class actions, intellectual property, complex commercial and business transactions, fiduciary relationships, and embezzlement, among others. He has conducted jury trials, bench trials, arbitrations and mediations. Jim has successfully argued in federal district courts throughout the nation, and in state courts throughout California.

Jim Hannink has served as a Judge Pro Tem for the San Diego Municipal Court. He is a member of the Litigation Section of the State Bar of California, and the San Diego County Bar Association. Jim is admitted to all federal trial courts in California, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Jim Hannink received his B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Calvin College in 1984, his J.D. from the University of California, Davis, in 1987, and his LL.M. in Taxation summa cum laude from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2011. Jim spent over 20 years, predominately as a litigation partner, with DLA Piper, and two years with a smaller firm while pursuing his LL.M. degree, prior to joining Dostart Clapp & Coveney LLP in 2011.

Zach P. Dostart

Zach received his law degree in 2006 from the Pepperdine University School of Law, where he served as Managing Editor of the Pepperdine Law Review, and was a member of both the Honors Appellate Advocacy team and the Moot Court Board. Zach received an M.B.A. in 2007 from the Pepperdine University Graziadio School of Business and Management. In 2003, he received his B.S. in Economics, with a concentration in finance, from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

While in law school, Zach worked at the S.E.C. in Washington D.C., where he served in the Corporate Finance Division as a liaison to the Division of Enforcement, and as a Judicial Extern to The Honorable Dickran Tevrizian, Senior Trial Judge in the United States District Court, Central District of California.

Zach joined the firm’s litigation team in 2009. Zach is admitted to the California Bar, the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Central, Southern, and Eastern Districts of California, and the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.
